Reverse Tashlich: Clean-up Gathers 45 lbs of Debris

During Rosh Hashanah, it is a tradition for members of the Jewish community to visit a body of water and symbolically cast away their sins into the water in the Tashlich Service.
On Sunday, 28 September 2025, Repair The Sea held its eighth annual international coastal cleanup event, titled Reverse Tashlich. In contrast to the traditional practice of, participants sought to reverse the Tashlich process by removing pollutants — representing human wrongdoing — from local waterfronts through organized cleanup efforts. Team Or Shalom, representing one of 306 teams across 30 countries and six continents, contributed to the cleanup by scouring the confluence of the Wepawaug River and Milford Harbor, collecting 45 pounds of debris.

Repair the Sea or Tikkun HaYam, a nonprofit organization, aims to engage the Jewish community in addressing threats to the marine environment and appreciating its importance to global environmental health. The nonprofit organization believes urgent action is needed now to protect the sea as part of the Jewish commitment to repairing the world, Tikkun Olam.
