The Lure of The Sea

The Friends of the Case Memorial Library is presenting the Littlefield and Morneault Duo, singing sea chanteys and songs celebrating Connecticut’s seafaring traditions and businesses on Saturday, September 23rd at 2:00pm in the Library Program Room.

The ballads represent the duos’ personal interest in Connecticut’s maritime lore and history.  David Littlefield is a lifelong resident of Old Lyme and has worked for many years at Mystic Seaport.  He is known for his scholarship on whaling, especially the history of “the Morgan”, a whaling vessel.  His repertoire also includes songs about local shipping trades.  John Morneault is president of the Maritime Music and Tradition Society which hosts the annual Connecticut Sea Music Festival in Essex.  John is a social historian focusing on late 18th century maritime history.  He performs sea chanteys with The Jovial Crew every Monday night at the Griswold Inn in Essex.

This musical program is free and open to the public.  Reservations are required via www.casememoriallibrary.org or by phone 203-891-2170.
