Logan Weaver Named CT Delegate to T1D Children's Congress

Logan Weaver, of Orange, was selected to be one of two Connecticut Delegates at the upcoming 13th biannual Breakthrough T1D 2025 Children’s Congress, which will take place from July 7-9, 2025 in Washington D.C. Logan is a rising third grader at Race Book School. He was first diagnosed with T1D when he was in First Grade. Logan was diagnosed in the emergency room on a Tuesday but was back in school on Friday with rallying support from his diabetes care team at Yale, family, and school staff. He ran in the Orange Rotary Club’s annual Thanksgiving Day 5K a few weeks later. In the blink of an eye Logan transformed from a small child who feared shots into a brave warrior who gives himself insulin injections multiple times a day.
Logan was inspired to apply to be a delegate at the Children Congress because he struggles to use insulin pumps due to intense adhesive skin irritation, which unfortunately is common for many people living with T1D. Logan intends to use this special opportunity to bring this important issue to the attention of Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation and to advocate to all members of Congress to keep funding innovations and research to improve the quality of life for those living with T1D.
Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as JDRF, is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is driven to accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. Every two years, Breakthrough T1D runs a Children Congress advocacy program. The Children Congress, now in its 13th iteration, has been essential to securing continued government funding for Type 1 Diabetes research and to raise awareness of the daily burden of Americans living with this serious autoimmune disease.
