Orange Honors Golf Legend Pat O'Sullivan Lucey at 100

September 2026 marks the recognition and celebration of Patricia O’Sullivan Lucey’s 100th birthday.
Race Brook Country Club and the Town of Orange are proclaiming September 8, 2026 as “Pat O’Sullivan Lucey Day”.
Jake Rotherman, the PGA Golf Pro at Race Brook said, “Pat O’Sullivan Lucey is one of the greatest champions in Connecticut golf history.” “Race Brook Country Club offers its congratulations to her inspirational achievements.”
Highlights of her career:
- 1951 Titleholders Championship, women’s golf equivalent of the Masters and only one of four amateurs to win this LPGA event.
- Pat O’Sullivan won three Connecticut State Women’s Amateur, 10 Connecticut Women’s Match Play and New England Women’s Championships.
- She won 3 North & South Women’s Championship, one of the most prestigious golf events.
- Member of the United State Curtis Cup; inducted into the Connecticut Sports Hall of Fame.
- At Race Brook Country Club she had won 26 Women’s Club Championships.
- Has the lowest women’s score for 18 holes at Race Brook carding a 65; seven under par.
She began her storied career in the early 1940’s; Judge P.B. O’Sullivan would drop her off at Orange Hills golf course, where she would play 54 holes a day; five days each week.
Recognizing her potential, she joined Race Brook Country Club in 1942 and was a member until her death in 2019.
Jake Rotherman continued,” Under the supervision and guidance of then Race Brook’s golf pro Ed Burke, she was a quick learner, and through constant practice she greatly improved. She was a real student of the Game.”
Race Brook Country Club was honored to have many dignitaries, politicians, movie stars and other pros come to Race Brook Country Club play both in tournaments and fund-raising events.
Pat O’Sullivan Lucey also enjoyed the comradery of other members and loved entertaining family and friends at Thanksgiving Dinner, birthdays or other celebrations.
James M Zeoli, First Selectman for the Town of Orange Stated, “We are fortunate that the people of Orange recognize the importance of Race Brook Country Club, both as an historical site as well as for its beauty and open space. Pat O’Sullivan Lucey, golfing great, placed Race Brook Country Club at the epicenter of the Connecticut golfing world.”
First Selectman Zeoli went on to say, “the O’Sullivan Family have been members at Race Brook since it began in 1912, currently the fourth generation of O’Sullivan’s are playing and enjoying the club and course and we extend our warmest congratulations on Pat O’Sullivan Lucey’s career and milestone.”
