Amity Budget

The Superintendent’s proposed budget for 2026-2027 was presented to the Amity Finance Committee and the Amity Board of Education throughout January, February, and March. In addition to presentations within the school district, the budget has been presented to the finance committees in all three towns. On February 23, 2026, the Amity Finance Committee recommended that the Board of Education approve a budget that is no higher than 1.53 percent greater than the current fiscal year. The Board of Education subsequently approved a budget that is 1.20 percent higher than the current fiscal year. The Board’s budget includes support for a revised middle school schedule that will increase world language electives and student choice in courses, along with funding across the district for technology, special education, athletics, facilities, and curriculum and instruction. The budget also supports a new high school program that will allow students to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.

Elected Officials’ Day

Amity hosted its fourth annual Elected Officials’ Days at the end of January and beginning of February. This event invites members of the Boards of Selectmen, Boards of Finance, and Boards of Education from all three towns. State representatives and senators are also invited to attend. Each day features a student-led tour of the school, often highlighting classes, programs, or facilities the district hopes to improve through the budgeting process. The visits are intended to showcase the exceptional and comprehensive opportunities offered to our students in grades 7-12. The day concludes with a meal prepared by the high school culinary department and a question and answer session with students and district leaders.

Amity Board of Education Honors CAPSS Student Award Nominees

The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) annually recognizes students who demonstrate community service and service to others, academic process relative to ability, and leadership and service to the school community. At the January Board meeting, ten students were recognized and honored by members of the Board. They include: Sadie Berkowitz and Stephen Awe (AMSB); Quinn Smith and Elizabeth Scates (AMSO); and Remmy Ciambriello, Daniel Del Prete, Orokwu Igo-Amadi, William Keenan, Sarayu Rao, and Clyde Stolzman (ARHS).

Graduation & Last Day of School

Commencement for the Class of 2026 will take place on June 11, 2026. The last day of school for all other students is now scheduled for June 17, 2026.

Amity Board of Education Adopts 2026-2027 School Calendar

After thorough review, the Amity Board of Education has approved the 2026-2027 school calendar. Balancing academic goals, community input, and operational considerations, the calendar reflects Amity’s continued commitment to excellence. Designed to prioritize student needs, the calendar also aligns closely with the elementary districts. The full calendar is available on the district website.

Policy Revisions and Updates

The Board of Education recently approved updates to the district’s School Calendar policy to clarify how Amity’s annual calendar is developed and reviewed. The updated policy outlines the Superintendent’s role in recommending the calendar for Board approval and reaffirms the district’s commitment to meeting all state requirements while respecting the diverse faiths and traditions represented in the Amity community. It also explains the factors considered when designating non-school days, reviewing requests for additional holidays, setting graduation dates, and coordinating with regional and sending district calendars, while preserving instructional time and compliance with state mandates.

The Board of Education also updated the district’s Student Nutrition and Physical Activity (Student Wellness) Policy to reaffirm Amity’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of all students and to ensure continued alignment with the federal National School Lunch Program. The policy outlines expectations for nutritious meals that meet federal and state guidelines, opportunities for regular physical activity during and beyond the school day, and nutrition education that supports healthy, lifelong habits. It also emphasizes a positive school food environment, access to healthy options, and ongoing review to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

School Climate Improvement Plans

At the Board of Education’s December meeting, the Board received a presentation from the District School Climate Coordinator and the three building School Climate Specialists highlighting key findings from the district’s annual school climate surveys. These surveys, completed by students, staff, and families across all schools, provide valuable insight into perceptions of school safety, inclusivity, and the overall learning environment. The presentation also outlined each school’s specific goals and actions within their School Climate Improvement Plans. These plans are available on the district website and guide the district’s ongoing efforts to strengthen safe, positive, and inclusive school communities.
